Alunga clinches third KAGC victory at Manchester Salver

Ugandan Michael Alunga continued to dominate Kenyan golf circuit following his victory at the Manchester Salver, a Kenya Amateur Golf Championships (KAGC) series leg played over the weekend at the par 71 Eldoret Golf club.

This was Alunga’s third win after victories at the Vasco Da Gama Open in Malindi and at the Tea Field in Kericho. He fired two under par 140 gross after registering identical one under par in the 36-hole two-day tournament.

Alunga said he is hitting top form in time for next year’s Magical Kenya Open, adding that he is still hungry for more.

“I have become more of Kenyan than Ugandan and playing in Kenya has given me so much experience. There is too much golf in Kenya and it is very competitive. I always feel nice playing here,” said Alunga.

Alunga completed Day One joint-top with Eldoret caddie Robert Khayeka and Joseph Gathumbi from Kenya Railways with one under par 70.

On Day Two, Alunga maintained his pace to play level as Gathumbi played two over par 73 to remain second on one over par 143 as junior player Danny Chelogoi completed the podium with two over. Chelogoi was the best player on Day Two with level par 71.

“It was tricky in the the first nine. My game had not picked but when it because my game was not coming but eventually it came back. I was struggling too much with my putting, where I hit bogeys and 7 pars with the rest being birdies,” said Alunga.

He said that he was not worried about getting the bogeys; it was just a score that would make the cut to the top.
